  7.     This program will patch your installation of Warcraft 2
  8.     so that it can operate with or without your Warcraft 2 CD.
  9.     It is not intended as a way of copying your CD for all your
  10.     friends.
  11.  
  12. GETTING STARTED
  13.  
  14.     Copy WC2CRACK.EXE, DETECTCD.EXE and WAR2CD.BAT into your
  15.     Warcraft 2 directory.
  16.     Run WC2CRACK.EXE, if there are any problems you will be
  17.     informed at this stage.
  18.     Only use this program on installations from CD or from
  19.     Blizzard's upgrade patches, not on an installation that
  20.     you or someone else has modified.
  21.     After the modifications are complete, Warcraft 2 should be
  22.     quite happy about running without the CD installed.

  24. TIPS & TRICKS
  25.  
  26.     If you sometimes wish to play without the CD, and sometimes
  27.     with the CD, you can run DETECTCD.EXE before running WAR2.EXE.
  28.     Be sure to tell DETECTCD where your CD-ROM is.
  29.     e.g. DETECTCD F:\
  30.     If DETECTCD finds your Warcraft 2 data, it will tell Warcraft 2
  31.     that you want the speech and the cut scenes, otherwise
  32.     Warcraft 2 will just run without them.
  33.     Have a look at WAR2CD.BAT for an example on how to do this
  34.     automatically, just run WAR2CD.BAT every time instead of 
  35.     WAR2.EXE.
  36.  
  37.     If you want to play Warcraft 2 on a computer that has no CD-ROM
  38.     drive, such as a laptop, you don't ever have to run DETECTCD.
  39.  
  40.     If you have a lot of free drive space on such a computer, you 
  41.     could install all the speech and cut scene data onto the
  42.     hard disk, you will need about 100MB free though.
  43.     The speech data is stored in SNDDAT.WAR, and the cut scene
  44.     data is stored in MUDDAT.CUD.
  45.     Make sure that DETECTCD knows where you have put the data.
  46.     e.g. If you put the data in C:\WAR2CD\DATA, you will call
  47.     DETECTCD C:\WAR2CD
  48.     You will only have to run DETECTCD once, after transferring
  49.     the files.  If you later delete the files, run DETECTCD
  50.     once again.

  52.     If you have the Beyond the Dark Portal CD, you can now play
  53.     all the levels from both episodes without having to put in
  54.     your old Tides of Darkness CD.  Yes, Blizzard put all
  55.     the Tides of Darkness information on the Beyond the Dark
  56.     Portal CD, but didn't tell anyone.
